A Public Service

So in the 2016 Summer, I participated in a great number of service hours for the high school I attend, GCE. During the school year, I assisted The Menomonee: Boys and Girls Club with similar tasks, and considering how they hosted many classes for us here at GCE, this was just one way to help pay them back. So anything from cleaning up something outside, to attending the front desk; I did a total of 80 3/4 hours, and honestly, I learned a lot about commitment and dedication. Before doing the hours, I generally assumed that the work wasn't even preparatory for a real life job/career experiences. Any work I've done before felt almost more like another assignment, even if it wasn't tedious. But doing these hours at GCE and Menomenee, I actually felt like I was impacting a community.

Working in these facilities that have assisted me and impacted me in a great way gave me a sense of assisting the community, even when it was as simple as watering the plants in the garden, it allowed me to acknowledge that I've impacted the community that has taught me so much, which definitely allows much more appreciation for said communities. And that's a pretty valuable lesson if you ask me.
